Stephen was born June 11, 1954, in Columbia, Mississippi, the eldest son of Jerolene and James Culpepper. The family subsequently relocated to Marshall, Texas, where Stephen grew up. Stephen graduated from Marshall High School in 1973, and attended what is now Texas A&M, Commerce, graduating with a BS in Accounting in 1977. He then earned his CPA certification. After graduation from college, Stephen moved to Dallas where he spent most of his career working as an accountant and computer programmer. He retired from business in 2013, and began pursuing a new career in real estate investment. His hobbies included flying, traveling, and rooting for his beloved Cowboys.

Stephen had two passions in his life. One was his love for his wife Judith. The other was his desire to serve the Lord and others by providing comfortable, safe housing for people in his community. Stephen had a servant's heart, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help the people he loved.
Stephen is preceded in death by his parents James and Jerolene Culpepper and his cousin Randy Cooper.

After suffering a massive stroke, Stephen stepped quietly into Glory on Saturday, September 9, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife Judith, his sister Nan (Hal) Ray, their two children Tres Ray, and Tori (Clint) Cox; aunt Mary (Les) MacDonald; cousins Ashley (Craig) Thornton, and Robin (Kirk) Murray; aunt and uncle Betty and Frank Cooper; and step-son Peter (Katie) Stewart.

Services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017, at All Saints Church, 9051 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia, MS at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Stephen's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital; or to the Scholarship Fund at New Covenant Schools, 122 Fleetwood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
